Fire Protection for Clean Rooms

In many industries such as Semiconductor fabrication, food processing, pharmaceutical plants, even a small fire can cause a significant loss as both the product and the machinery can become contaminated with smoke, as well as the water used to fight the fire. Kidde has a range of products to detect fire at its earliest stage, as well as suppression agents that leave no residue.

Clean manufacturing facilities, or clean rooms, are most often associated with the production of semiconductor chips. Due to extremely high value of the chips being produced and the resulting high cost of downtime, a fire, even a small one, can contaminate an entire production run and cause costly delays.

Companies who are seeking to achieve “green” status for their buildings and operations are evaluating every type of system from HVAC to fire protection. The intent is to maximise resource efficiency and enhance productivity while having the least possible adverse effect on the environment. When it comes to protecting vital enclosures such as data centers, process control rooms and automated manufacturing machinery, the fire protection challenge is to balance effectiveness versus environmental impact.

Kidde offers a unique approach to fire protection—total system solutions. With this approach in mind, we have established a total fire protection package ideal for Green Facilities. Listed below are Detection and Suppression Systems most commonly used for this type of application.

SUPPRESSION

ADS™ with HFC-227ea Clean Agent Fire Suppression

The Kidde Fire Systems ADS™ with HFC-227ea Clean Agent Suppression System was developed by our engineers to provide economical protection for larger enclosures requiring longer agent flow distances. Its innovative technology allows the ADS to deliver mass flow rates 2.5 to 3 times faster than a standard clean agent system. This innovation allows networking of longer pipe runs in complex configurations with smaller pipe sizes for protection of larger hazard areas.

ECS Series FM-200 System

The preferred fire suppression system for vital facilities that can’t afford fire-related business interruption of process controls, automated industrial operations, robotics, etc.

ECS-500™ with Kidde Fluoro-K Fire Suppression Agent

The Kidde ECS-500™ type Clean Agent Suppression System using Fluoro-K provides superior performance compared to standard 360 psi (25 bar) systems. The higher storage pressure of 500 psi (35 bar) enables improvement of agent travel distance for applications where ADS™ performance levels are not required. Now you have the flexibility of a mid-tier solution to meet application size, design requirements and the client’s budget.

Kidde Carbon Dioxide Fire Suppression System

The Kidde Carbon Dioxide Fire Suppression System uses the proven Kidde Detect-A-Fire detector to sense fire in its earliest stages. Carbon dioxide in a gaseous form is then applied locally to the protected area for quick fire suppression. Carbon dioxide will not contaminate or leave residue requiring time-consuming cleanup operations.

Inert Gas Fire Suppression System

Inert gas fire suppression systems use naturally occurring gases like nitrogen, argon, and carbon dioxide to extinguish fires by reducing the oxygen concentration in a protected area. These systems are environmentally friendly, safe for humans, and cause minimal damage to equipment.

DETECTION

Kidde Senator HSSD® System

Laser-based high-sensitivity smoke detection system designed to detect fire in the incipient stage. Recommended for critical facilities such as data centres. Thousands of times more sensitive than conventional detectors, the Kidde Senator employs particle size discrimination technology to reduce the occurrence of nuisance alarms. System consists of a detector head, piping network and optional LCD display module.

Kidde Detect-A-Fire® Detectors and Release Devices

Standard-of-the-industry detector functions as an alarm device to sense overheat and fire conditions and trigger an alarm or as a release device to sense fire and actuate the fire suppression system. Rate-compensated for versatility and reset able for economical performance.
