Fire Protection for farming machinery of all sizes

Agribusiness presents unique fire protection challenges for vehicle manufacturers and owners. The importance of providing protection to these high-value machines is critical to keeping them in the field and delivering their harvested products to the market.

The size of the machine combined with its location could have a disastrous outcome if a fire were to occur. Not only is the equipment at risk, but also the operator. Lubricants and hydraulic fluids (fuel), when combined with the heat of the engine (ignition source), are the primary cause of a fire. Crop residue and other debris from the field may also ignite, spreading the fire into the surrounding field.

When observing a combine threshing a grain crop, the thought of a fire is probably not the first thing to come to mind. However, this is a very real threat to the workers on the job. In the past 20 years there have been more than 1000 fires reported to local fire departments.

SUPPRESSION

StatX Electrical Generators (vehicle)

Developed and manufactured by Kidde in Australia to meet the requirements of AS 5062, the Light Vehicle (LV) panels have a comprehensive feature set. The panels are configurable so that each fire protection system can be tailored to meet individual customer, or equipment requirements. Detection and actuation circuits as well as power supplies are supervised. The panels incorporate a manual release, audible and visual alarms and internal back-up battery (in case of loss of vehicle power) in a single IP65 rated metal enclosure. The panel also incorporates an event log capable of storing up to 600 events.

StatX Thermal/Manual Generators (vehicle)

Stat-X® fire suppression systems with thermal/manual operation are stand-alone units. Their own patented detection mechanism is incorporated, eliminating the need for separate detection, and releasing controls.

Reacton Indirect Release Systems

The Reacton® On Road & Off Road Vehicle system is a pre-engineered Dry Powder fire suppression system offering complete automatic fire detection & suppression. Detection and actuation of the system is accomplished by the use of Reacton® tubing as a primary detection method, and the patented CTX Indirect Valve™ to control & discharge the contents  through a network of discharge hoses and pipework.
